Christian John RUOPP
Minnie Veda SCHUSTER
Christian John RUOPP , was born in Auingen, Munsinger, Kingdom of Wurttemburg, Germany on 07 FEB 1855 to John George and Anna Maria (HERMAN or HINNAN) RUOPP. He was one of 23 children.
Minnie Veda SCHUSTER was born on 04 NOV 1867 in Quincy, Illinois to Seede (Seth) and Carolena (Lena) Wilhelmena (VON MOHR, ROHLFS) SCHUSTER. She was one of 6 children born to Carolena SCHUSTER. She moved with her parents in 1872 to Franklin County, Nebraska. As a young girl she was confirmed in the Lutheran Church and later joined the Presbyterian Church.
Christian John RUOPP was married to Minnie Veda SCHUSTER on 12 MAR 1886 in the Tremont Hotel located in Bloomington, Franklin County, Nebraska and to them four children were born:
(1) Lena Schuster RUOPP b. ae 21 MAY 1887 in Bloomington, NE, m. 19 APR 1908 in Bloomington, NE to William Clifford STORY. Lena d. 07 DEC 1933 at Escondido, San Diego Co., CA (Please write for more information);
(2) Chris Seth RUOPP b. ae 06 MAR 1888 (?), m. d. (?) (Please write for more information);
(3) Ella Bertha RUOPP b. 08 NOV 1896 bp. Bloomington, Franklin County, Nebraska, m. Henry SINDT, d. 07 JAN 1979 dp. Franklin County Hospital, Franklin, Nebraska. They are both buried in the Naponee Cemetery, Naponee, Nebraska (Please write for more information); and
(4) Marie Veda RUOPP b. 25 DEC 1902 bp. Bloomington, Nebraska, m. 25 NOV 1925 in Franklin County, Nebraska to Ervin AMMAN. (My direct line. Please write for more information)
On November 12, 1888 Chris RUOPP became a citizen of the United States of America by the oath of allegiance required by law after having proved good character and residence in the United States for five years and in the state of Nebraska for one year sworn to by the oaths of J.R. BLACK, Harry REMLEY and J.M. KATZMAIER. Mr. RUOPP had previously declared his intention to become a citizen of the United States before A.D. BARR, Clerk of the District Court in and for Lancaster County, Nebraska.
Chris RUOPP had many occupations which included serving in the Germany Army for three years and superintendent of an estate in Germany. In the United States he was employed as a Civil Engineer for the Union Pacific Railroad, held two terms as Franklin County Treasurer in Bloomington, Franklin County, Nebraska prior to 1920, and was a hardware businessman/owner for 45 years in various towns in Nebraska including Naponee located in Franklin County, Culbertson located in Hitchcock County, etc. and one town in Kansas.
Minnie Veda SCHUSTER was born on 04 NOV 1867 in Quincy, Illinois to Seede (Seth) and Carolena (Lena) Wilhelmena (VON MOHR, ROHLFS) SCHUSTER. She was one of 6 children born to Carolena SCHUSTER. She moved with her parents in 1872 to Franklin County, Nebraska. As a young girl she was confirmed in the Lutheran Church and later joined the Presbyterian Church.
In 1884, at the age of 17, Minnie SCHUSTER got a teaching position at School District #35 in Franklin County, Nebraska. She had 20 pupils and the term was for four months. Then in the same year she got a teaching position at the Welcome School Dist. #44 with 12 pupils for three months. School terms were much shorter then, so she may have taught the equivalent of 2 terms.
In 1890 Chris RUOPP purchased 163 & 2/100 acres of land for $2,200.00 from Bernard HEITKOLLER in the Ash Grove Township in Franklin County. The land was located in two areas. The bulk of the land was located in NW1/4 of Section 6, Township 3, North of Range 15 in Franklin County, Nebraska. The other was Lot numbered Two in Block Sixteen in the Village of Hildreth, Nebraska.
In the 1905 Standard Atlas of Franklin County the map of Bloomington Township shows that Chris RUOPP owned the E1/2 of Nebraska1/4 Section 19, Township 2, Range 15 consisting of about 80 acres.
Chris and Minnie RUOPP moved extensively between about 1905 and 1919. Their daughter Marie AMMAN remembers living in several towns. When living in Culbertson, Nebraska (ae 1917), Chris owned a hardware store and had 5¢, 10¢, 25¢, 50¢ and $1.00 tokens made for trade. Marie AMMAN still has several of these tokens. Some antique enthusiasts collect these tokens and it is interesting to note that these particular tokens are not listed on the official Nebraska Token registry. They somehow must have been missed, or Chris RUOPP may have never registered them.
Chris and Minnie RUOPP celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on 12 MAR 1936.
Minnie RUOPP died 01 DEC 1960 in Franklin County, Nebraska and was buried at the Naponee Cemetery , Naponee, Nebraska on 04 DEC 1960. She was dearly loved and mourned by those who knew her.
Chris RUOPP died on 18 JAN 1937 in Naponee, Nebraska as is buried in the Naponee Cemetery.
Chris RUOPP Obituary:
"Chris Ruopp, son of John and Anna Marie Ruopp, was born on 07 FEB 1855 at Auingen, Munsinger, Kingdom of Württemberg, Germany where he spent the early years of his life. When 14 years old he was confirmed in the Lutheran Church and was a faithful attendant of that church for 25 or 30 years at which time he and his wife united with the Presbyterian Church, of which he was a member at the time of his death.
Those who knew the deceased were charmed by his refined and gentle manners, for he was a true scholar, and his personality reflected the polish which education gives its adherents. He graduated from two colleges in Germany, and the culture received from those centers of education made him the character his friends loved to associate with in later years. He served three years in the German army, after which he became superintendent of one of the largest estates in Germany.
He came to America in April, 1885 at the age of 30. His first years in America were spent as a civil engineer and surveyor for the Union Pacific Railroad. He worked on the line between Beatrice and Lincoln and laid out the town site of Courtland about 20 miles south of Lincoln. Later he settled on a homestead in Franklin County, Nebraska. He lived on this homestead about four years, then moved to Bloomington. He was in the hardware business the last 45 years of his life. While in Bloomington he was elected County Treasurer of Franklin County and held this position for four years.
On 12 MAR 1886 he was united in marriage to Minnie SCHUSTER. To this union four children were born. The eldest daughter, Mrs. Lena STORY, preceded her father in death, passing on four years ago. Besides his wife, he leaves to mourn his departure a son, Chris RUOPP, Jr., two daughters, Mrs. Henry (Ella) SINDT, and Mrs. Ervin (Marie) AMMAN, eleven grandchildren, one great grandson, numerous other more distant relatives and a host of friends.
While his health has been poorly for some time, he had been able to attend to his business until the Saturday prior to his death. His last illness was of very short duration being bedfast only two days. He passed to his eternal reward from his home in Naponee, about 5 a.m. on the morning of 18 JAN 1937, being 81 years, 11 months and 11 days old. he and his wife celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on the 12 MAR 1936 not quite a year ago. His departure leaves a vacancy which no one else can fill, but we trust that our loss is His gain and that he is where sickness and death never come.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Congregational Church conducted by Rev. J.H. BEITEL of Franklin, assisted by Rev. POMEROY, and interment made in the Naponee Cemetery.
Pallbearers were: D.W. SMITH, Raymond DRUMMOND, Paul AMMAN, William DUNN, Frank CLAMPETT, Otto STOLZ.
A quartet composed of Clifford REBMAN, Mrs. Frank O'NEILL, Mrs. S.E. ELY and C.R. BURNHAM, accompanied by Mrs. Fred BUISING sang 'Rock of Ages', 'Crossing the Bar', 'Going Down the Valley One by One' and 'Beautiful Isle.'
F.G. Hutchins and Son of Franklin had charge of the funeral.

Minnie RUOPP Obituary:
"Minnie Veda RUOPP, daughter of Carolena and Seth SCHUSTER, was born on a farm at Quincy, Ill, on 04 NOV 1867. She moved with her parents in 1872 to Franklin County, received her education in Franklin County and was graduated from Bloomington High School. She taught in country schools for several years.
When a young girl she was confirmed in the Lutheran Church and later joined the Presbyterian Church.
She was united in marriage with Chris RUOPP 12 MAR 1886. Their first home was on a farm eight miles north of Bloomington. Later they moved to Bloomington. They resided in several different towns in Nebraska. To this union four children were born, Lena, Chris, Ella and Marie. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on the 12th day of March, 1936. her husband and one daughter preceded her in death. She passed away 01 DEC 1960 at the age of 93 years and 27 days.
Mrs. RUOPP leaves to mourn: one son, Chris RUOPP of Burbank, California.; Two daughters, Ella SINDT and Marie AMMAN, both of Naponee; 13 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; one great, great grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was dearly loved by all who knew her and she was always ready to help and give her services where they were needed.
Her departure leaves a vacancy which no one can fill but we trust that our loss is His gain, and she is where sickness and death never come.
Funeral services were held in the Congregational Church at Naponee Sunday, 04 DEC 1960 at 2 p.m. with Rev. A. Clair KING officiating.
Singers were Mrs. Dwayne MAHIN and Mrs. Francis POST, accompanied by Mrs. Paul EISENHAUER.
Pallbearers were Ben SINDT, Karl SINDT, Guss HARRISON, Dick BROWN, Bill FRATZKE and Joe RICHTER.
Interment was in the Naponee Cemetery."
